National Park March programs scheduled
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park continues its tradition of sharing Hawaiian culture and After Dark in the Park programs in March.
All programs are free, but a $2 donation helps support them, and park entrance fees apply.
“From Ka‘u to Kona: Stories of Lava Flows and Volcanic Landscapes” will discuss the prominent lava flows visible while driving the main highways in West Hawaii. The talk will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Kilauea Visitor Center auditorium.
An ohe kapala demonstration will show how ohe kapala, or bamboo stamps, were used to present many unique designs for traditional Hawaiian kapa. Today, these exceptional designs are being used as patterns on all types of fabric. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon March 12 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
Hawaiian musician Ben Kaili will perform as part of the ongoing Na Leo Manu “Heavenly Voices” presentations from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 19 at Kilauea Visitor Center auditorium.
A “Mauna Loa: Eruptive History and Current Status of Earth’s Largest Active Volcano” talk will be given from 7 to 8 p.m. March 25. This date marks the 30th anniversary of the most recent eruption of Mauna Loa, the largest active volcano on Earth. The eruptive history and current status of Mauna Loa will be discussed.
Finally, attendees will learn to weave a star from leaves of the pandanus tree during “Uhana Lauhala” from 10 a.m. to noon March 26 at Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
Masons hold monthly meeting Wednesday
Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Wednesday at Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., No. 7, in Kailua-Kona.
A dinner will be held at 6 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7 p.m. Dessert will follow. All members of the craft are invited to attend both the dinner and meeting.

Free video production orientation to be held
The next scheduled free video production orientation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Na Leo O Hawaii facilities, 74-5565 Luhia St., Suite C1-A in Kaiwi Square.
Na Leo O Hawaii Inc. is the nonprofit corporation established to manage the public, education and government cable access channels in Hawaii County and to promote the creation of television programs by and for the people of the Big Island.

Senior ID cards distributions slated
The county Coordinated Services for the Elderly Ppogram will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Kailua-Kona Walmart. Staff will also issue the cards from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Pahala Housing Center; 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Naalehu Community Center; 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Kohala SCS building; 9 to 11 a.m. March 11, L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, Waimea; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 19, West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 28, Yano Hall, Captain Cook; and 3 to 4 p.m. March 31, Hale Hauoli Senior Center, Honokaa.

Estate planning expert speaking to seniors
Donna Payesko will speak on estate planning, trust administration and how to protect assets during the Kailua-Kona Seniors meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai.
Payesko is a graduate of Rutgers University School of Business and Seton Hall University School of Law. She is an active member of Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and she volunteers her attorney expertise with several area organizations.
