Free youth admission to Vulcans games
The University of Hawaii at Hilo athletic department is offering free admission to youth organizations for the 2014 home baseball and softball games.
Children 12 and younger wearing team or organization uniforms may enter home games for free. Organizations include youth sports teams and boy and girls scouts.
Tickets are available at the Vulcans ticket office and the ticket table at home games.

Run For the Hops fundraiser for PATH
BMW Hawaii & Bike Works presents the seventh annual Run For the Hops 10K and 5K races at BMW Hawaii on Loloku Street on Saturday.
The races start at 7:30 a.m. and are a fundraiser for Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii.
Entry fees are $30 for adults, $20 for ages 14 and younger until Friday. A $10 late fee is applied to race-day sign-ups.

Gail talks multisport activities
Grant and Janet Higa Miller, Jessica Marcotte and Jason Nicholas are among many guests who will share insight from Kona Beach & Sport in Kailua Village about multisport activities in West Hawaii on the Emily T Gail Show at espnhawaii.com.
Gail also will have updates on Lavaman Waikoloa activities, including the free clinic March 23. The main Lavaman event is March 30.

High school rodeo at Paniolo Park
The Hawaii High School Rodeo at Paniolo Park in Waimea continues the first weekend of April and May. Saturday activities feature keiki and junior divisions; Sunday activities feature high school participants. The state finals junior division is May 9 to 11 and high school division is June 12 to 15.
The competition is free; donations are welcome. Food will be sold, with proceeds to benefit the program.

Canoe race at Kawaihae Surf Park
The Kohala Coast/Beanie Heen Memorial races will be at 9 a.m. March 29 at Kawaihae Surf Park. The races, for OC-1, OC-2 and SUP on short and long courses, start and end at the park. There will be a party and raffle after the races.

Gold Coast Little League softball

Waimea Cowboys football and cheer
Practices for the Waimea Cowboys football and cheer teams begin today at Waimea School field.
Registration is open to children ages 5 to 15. The fee to participate is $85.
The requirements to play are: a 2014 registration packet, current sports physical, original birth certificate, copy of medical insurance card (front and back), second quarter report card, and photo of the student-athlete. Practices are held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Instructional basketball junior high league

Kona horseshoe club spring league
The Kona Horseshoe Pitchers Club Spring League will start March 13. Membership is required for NHPA-sanctioned doubles play. Singles will be matched up when possible. The eight-week league costs $5 per week and is played from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays at the Palm Court horseshoe pits at Old Kona Airport Park.

Kealakehe High School’s Waverider Triathlon Club will present the “5K Leprechaun-A-Thon & Sham-Walk” at 7 a.m. March 15 at Magic Sands Beach Park.

The Big Island Running Company is offering guided speed workouts concluding Saturday.

Hawaii Cycling Club Century Ride
The Hawaii Cycling Club will host the Century Ride on April 5 to benefit North Hawaii Hospice.
The ride starts and ends at Spencer Beach Park. Distances are 31 miles (starting at 8 a.m.), 62 miles (7:30) and 112 miles (6:30). There will be aid stations every 15-25 miles.
Entry fees are $50 through March 23 and $60 thereafter. Participants will receive T-shirts, food on the course, and a barbecue after the rides.

Hawaii Cycling Club offers Lavaman training
The Hawaii Cycling Club will host free training time trials at 8 a.m. March 15 for participants training for Lavaman Waikoloa. Registration is 7-7:40 a.m. at Bike Works Beach & Sport in the Queens Shops.
The Kua Bay time trial starts on Queen Kaahumanu Highway, just south of Waikoloa Beach Road. The course is 12.2 miles.

The Hawaii Racing Association is updating its membership list for 2014 to find out what types of motor sports Big Island residents are interested in having at a proposed Kona Motorsport Park.
The HRA’s website shows potential uses for a 250-acre park and offers an online survey.
