Suicide prevention group meets today
The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force meets from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the West Hawaii Community Health Center conference room located at 75-5751 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona. All residents and visitors interested in preventing suicide in the community are welcome to attend.

How to win a vet claim seminar set
The Christopher Camero Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12122 will host a repeat of a seminar on how to win a VA claim at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the post located at 74-5562 Makala Drive. The speaker will be Douglas Drake, a disabled veteran, retired judge and accredited member of the bar for the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. All are welcome to attend.

Vision support group holds resource day
The Kona Blind and Low Vision Support Group will host a resource event at 10 a.m. Friday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.
The event will focus on living with failing vision and will present assistive technology, resources and coping techniques. Representatives from the library and other organizations and member experts will address questions including: How can I read? How can I navigate? How can I work? How can I use my computer? How can I deal with household management?
Resource Day is sponsored by the National Federation of the Blind, West Hawaii chapter.

West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets Friday
West Hawaii Hui Laulima will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday in the West Hawaii Community Health Center community meeting room.
The guest speaker will be Kauila Ho, executive director of Neighborhood Place of Kona.
The hui is a consortium of West Hawaii’s major health and human service providers, organizations, government and individuals. It was formed to encourage collaboration particularly around matters affecting West Hawaii’s youth and families, including the elderly.

Orchid Society meets Friday night
The Kona Orchid Society meets at 6 p.m. Friday at the Hualalai Academy Bridge Building, located at 74-4966 Kealakaa St. in Kailua-Kona. A potluck dinner begins at 6:15 p.m. Bring something to share.
Speakers will be Ty Lewis and Clay Callaway of Hilo Hana. They create containers for orchids and plants, using vines, branches and other items. They will also bring some of their creations to sell.
A member show-and-tell of clean and pest-free plants is planned.
There will also be a drawing for orchids after the speakers are finished with their demonstration.

St. Paddy’s Day Sock Hop planned
Continuing with its Celebrate Seniors program, Auntie’s Angels will host a St. Paddy’s Day Sock Hop from 1 to 3:30 p.m. March 16 at Hualalai Elderly Housing in Kailua-Kona. Pupu and pizza will be served, while the seniors rock out to PonchoMan Kuanoni.

Tap dancing program planned at library
Reni Damron will present a program on tap dance and its music at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kailua-Kona Public Library.
