Senior yoga classes held in West Hawaii
Elderly Recreation Services is offering a series of yoga classes for anyone 55 or older.
This gentle yoga class is a series of stretches and breathing techniques that relaxes the body and mind and helps reduce stress. Classes will be held at 8:30 a.m. Mondays and Fridays through March 31, at Hale Halawai. For those with limited mobility, chair yoga classes are offered at 10 a.m. Mondays, from March 10 to 31, at Hale Halawai. New classes are also starting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays through March 25 at Yano Hall in Captain Cook.
Cost is $5 per class; registration and payment can be made on the first day of class. Participants are encouraged to bring a beach towel or yoga mat and water.

Vegetarians discuss Hippocrates diet
Kona Vegetarian Society will discuss the Hippocrates diet for weight loss and control during its 6:30 p.m. Monday meeting at Big Island Chabad Center, Suite 323 in Pottery Terrace.
How to live a cancer-free life, heart health and diabetes will also be discussed. Nonvegetarians are welcome.

Free craft class slated Tuesday
Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation in Kona is taking registration for a free St. Patrick’s Day craft class from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium. Participants ages 6 to 14 will decorate a cookie.

Scientists recount volcanic history
Community Enterprises resumes its 2014 Community Forums with a presentation on volcanoes at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Old Kona Airport Park’s Makaeo Pavilion.
U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists Jim Kauahikaua and Janet Babb will take attendees on a virtual road trip from Ka‘u to North Kona, recounting the volcanic history and stories of lava flows along Highways 11 and 190. Photographs and sketches of Mauna Loa and Hualalai lava flows from the 1800s and 1900s will be included, as well as film clips from the Mauna Loa 1950 eruption and images of how the flows and volcanic landscape appear today.
Pupu and beverages will be served.
