Line dance class offered Thursdays
An eight-week line dance class begins Thursday. A beginner level class meets from 6 to 7 p.m. and a group for more experienced dancers meets from 7 to 8 p.m. at Kona United Methodist Church on Palani Road.
The session cost is $35 for one class or $49 for both hours. One night drop-in fee is $7 for one class or $9 for both. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, preferably not brand-new athletic shoes.
All ages are welcome and children younger than 12 may attend free of charge. Call Jean at 328-9946 for more information.
Daughters, cousins meet Thursday
The Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousins meet at 1 p.m. Thursday on the Hulihee Palace lawn. The guest speaker will be Barbara Nobriga.
There will be music and refreshments. Guests and potential members are welcome

Waimea Healthy Keiki Fest slated Saturday
The 15th annual Waimea Healthy Keiki Fest will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker Ranch Center. Designed for children ages 3 to 12, keiki and parents will spend the day exploring a variety of hands-on activities related to environment, fitness, health, mind, nutrition and safety.

Volunteer days seek to remove fireweed from Mauna Kea
The Office of Mauna Kea Management is seeking volunteers to participate in its monthly Malama Maunakea volunteer days April 19, June 7 or July 26.
The Saturday weed pulls concentrate on eradicating fireweed to keep this invasive species from being transported to the upper elevations of the mountain and to reduce habitat for invasive insects. Volunteer days begins at 8 a.m. Ride sharing will be coordinated for West Hawaii volunteers.
The weed pulls proved to be successful throughout 2013 with 236 participants volunteering 1,747 hours, pulling 363 garbage bags of invasive weeds and also planting 200 Maunakea silversword.

Kona Traffic Safety Committee meets
Residents may discuss traffic safety issues during the Kona Traffic Safety Committee meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Community Hale, Building G at West Hawaii Civic Center.
Assistant Police Chief Paul Kealoha will attend the meeting. Everyone is welcome.
