Karl Johnson

Karl William Robert Johnson, 89, of Hilo died March 6, 2014, at his residence. Born March 20, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was an inorganic chemist for Los Alamos National Laboratory; member of Christ Lutheran Church, American Chemical Society and American Vacuum Society; troop leader for Boy Scouts of America troop 193 and World War II Navy veteran.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. March 12 at Christ Lutheran Church, 595 Kapiolani St. in Hilo. A visitation follows from 11 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Hilo. Condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

He is survived by daughters, Kay (Brian) Newnam of Los Alamos, N.M., Sally (Jeff) Bustamante of Moriarty, N.M.; sister, Lois Reeves of Topeka, Kan.; brother, Vaughn Johnson of Pinto Ranch, Mont.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Modesto Labisores Jr.

Modesto “Mo” Labisores Jr., 72, of Volcano died March 3, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 25, 1941, in Kohala, he was a retired iron worker welder who worked for Mutual Welding, Industrial Welding, Isemoto Contracting and Arakaki Mechanical and member of Iron Workers Local 625 and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may at 8 a.m. March 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial is at Homelani Memorial Park (Lehua Section). Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Gina Labisores of Volcano; son, Owen Labisores of Hilo; daughters, Eula (Ray) Caoagdan of Hilo, Melissa Labisores of Volcano; brothers, Benjamin (Henrietta) Labisores and Randal (Shirley) Labisores, both of Honolulu; sister, Gloria (Jim) Thompson of Kohala; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Vivian Borero

Vivian R. Borero, 87, of Hilo is also survived by a son, Allen (Monica) Smith of Maui, and a daughter, Elizabeth Andrew of California. Information submitted for an earlier published obituary omitted their names.

Cyrus Sabri

Cyrus Sabri, 59, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 2, 2014, in Tehran, Iran. Born Aug. 8, 1954, in Tehran, Iran, he was a university professor of urban planning and landscape architecture at the graduate level and an author with many published articles and books.

Service plans are pending.

He is survived by wife, Kit Kurtz; daughter and son, Roya and Dara Sabri of Kailua-Kona.
