The Waimea Arts Council presents “Squared Away,” an upcoming show at the Firehouse Gallery.
“Squared Away,” opening March 26, is a departure from past Waimea Arts Council traditions. Curated by Jaclyn MacKinnon, the show aims not to follow a specific theme in the content of the works submitted but rather to create a strong visual effect in the gallery as a whole, making the exhibition itself an artistic endeavor. The parameters of the show are simple: square canvases. There is no size limit, no subject constraints and a chance for artists to try a new medium, style or subject. Imposing a square format, which is unusual, forces the artist to frame his work in an untraditional manner. “Squared Away” will run from March 26 to April 24.
An opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. March 28 at the Firehouse Gallery. Pupu, wine and Big Island Brewhaus beer will be served.
