Tools for caregivers discussed Wednesday
The Kona Hospital Foundation’s informal lecture series discusses “Providing Tools for Family Caregivers.” Valorie Taylor, associate director of BAYADA Home Health Care, will discuss self-care strategies for caregivers from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Hale, Building G, at the West Hawaii Civic Center. Taylor will also introduce a new program designed to address unique caregiver challenges.
The lecture is free and open to the public.

Energy lecture series continues Wednesday
Friends of NELHA will host the third in a series of free lectures regarding energy at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority Gateway Visitor Center on Wednesday. Pacific Biodiesel Technologies Vice President and co-founder Kelly King will be the featured speaker on “Fuels and Transportation.” The event will start at 5:30 p.m. and admission is free.
King cofounded Pacific Biodiesel, a renewable energy company, with her husband Robert King in 1996. The company was the first commercial biodiesel firm in the U.S. and was initially created to alleviate the disposal of waste cooking oil at Maui’s landfill. As director of marketing and communications, she has helped to develop 13 biodiesel plants in the U.S. and Japan.

Kona Sunrise Rotary hosting speaker
Steve Machesky, president of KCPM Inc., will discuss an international project he is working on regarding integrated renewable resources at the Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise breakfast meeting beginning at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona. Breakfast is $10.

The West Hawaii Fisheries Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Hawaii Civic Center, offices of the Liquor Commission, on the second floor of Building B. The public is welcome to attend.

Water issues forum slated Thursday
State Rep. Nicole Lowen will host a community forum on water issues in West Hawaii from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Hawaii Civic Center Council Chambers, Building A. Guest panelists include Jonathan Likeke Scheuer, a water issues consultant, and Quirino Antonio, chief engineer, Hawaii County Department of Water Supply.
Among the topics discussed will be water issues relating to the National Park Service request to designate parts of the Hualalai aquifer, a water management area under the State Water Commission. Discussion will focus on what this might mean for the community, the environment and development in the area.
Abercrombie speaks at Focus Luncheon
The Kona-Kohala Cham-ber of Commerce will host Gov. Neil Abercrombie at its 2014 Focus Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 26 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
The two-hour luncheon offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the governor on issues important to the state as well as the West Hawaii community.
Attendees can also visit the Business Expo before and after the luncheon, where chamber members showcase their products and services to the community.
