Curves holds annual food drive

Curves International Inc. is inviting nonmembers and members to take part in a food drive through Sunday by bringing a bag of nonperishable food or a monetary contribution of at least $30 to Curves in Kealakekua.

Service fees will be waived for new members who make a donation and join Curves as a Fitness or Curves Complete member. The donations will benefit Hawaii Island Food Pantry.

Informational session for employers, job fair planned

Employers are invited to attend a breakfast to learn about new employer initiatives offered by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves.

The breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. April 2 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, Honu’s by the Beach Restaurant.

After the breakfast, employers can participate in a job fair meet and greet. Job seekers will have the opportunity to meet with employers and learn more about specific job openings.

Hula Daddy receives magazine honors

Hawaii Magazine readers have picked Hula Daddy Kona Coffee as top Kona coffee in the “Best of the Best: 2014 Readers Choice” awards.

“This is an amazing honor for us. Hula Daddy Kona Coffee is a 30-acre boutique coffee farm. It was started in 2002 and has won numerous awards. Coffeereview.com gave its coffee the highest rating for any coffee in the world. Honolulu Magazine picked it as the best coffee in Hawaii.

Hawaii Wildlife Center opens retail store

The Hawaii Wildlife Center retail store is open for business and celebrating a grand opening week event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Tuesday through Saturday. During the week, the store will offer 50 percent off Patrick Ching’s Hawaii National Wildlife Stamp poster and a free gift with purchases over $100.

All items in the store represent the center’s conservation mission and celebrate Hawaii’s native birds and bats. Many of the items are works by local artists. The store carries items including books, clothing and stuffed animals. All of the store’s profits fund critical wildlife conservation programs at the center, including the care of sick and injured native wildlife at the center’s wildlife hospital in Kapaau.

Presentation explains Chamber of Commerce benefits

Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce will hold a free, two-hour informational presentation highlighting its programs, services and benefits including free publicity opportunities such as Member Spotlight in the Kona-Kohala Connections e-newsletter, introduction at AfterHours and a host of networking events.

DBEDT launches online tax credit survey

The Department of Business, Economic Development and Research has launched the online Tax Credit Research Activity Survey at dbedt.hawaii.gov. This online form, to be filed by qualified high technology businesses, was mandated by the Legislature for businesses that want to claim a high-tech tax credit.

“By putting the form online, we are giving Hawaii businesses a greater level of convenience and ease,” said DBEDT Director Richard C. Lim. “Electronic submissions reduce paper waste and make data analysis much more efficient.”

The form was created quickly and within budget for DBEDT, in partnership with Hawaii Information Consortium LLC, the official Internet portal manager of eHawaii.gov.

Glover named among top CPAs

William Glover has been selected as a 2014 Five Star Certified Public Accountant by Honolulu Magazine, Hawaii Business and Five Star Professional. Award candidates must satisfy eligibility and evaluation criteria to receive the award. The select group represents less than 6 percent of certified public accountants in Hawaii.

Glover has provided tax and financial services to high-income, high net-worth individuals, corporations and government for more than 40 years. He received his master of business administration degree with honors from Harvard University in 1961. His office is located on Pawai Place in Kailua-Kona.

Internet marketing program planned

Entrepreneur Ian Hatch will introduce participants in “Social Media and Internet Marketing for Businesses” to Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. They will learn how these sites can help a business and how to set up an effective Internet marketing campaign.

Sponsored by the Office of Continuing Education and Training through the Polycom system, the training will be held at both the University of Hawaii Center at West Hawaii in Kealakekua at the Kanu o ka Aina Learning Ohana at Kauhale Oiwi o Puukapu in Waimea.
