The University of Hawaii as well as Washington State University will play in the WNIT.

The 64-team women’s basketball tournament starts Wednesday at various sites around the country.

Hawaii finished the season with a 17-13 record, including 10-6 for third place in the Big West. The Rainbow Wahine were not invited to play in the NCAA women’s tournament.

Hawaii plays at the University of Washington (17-13) on Friday.

Washington State went 17-16, including 9-9 in the Pac-12. But the Cougars fell in the conference semifinals and were not selected for the NCAA tournament.

The Cougars have two Big Island players in their starting lineup, sophomore guards Lia Galdeira and Dawnyelle Awa.

Galdeira and Awa were all-state players during their prep careers at Konawaena High School. They played on three state title teams in their four seasons.

Washington State plays at Montana (22-10) on Wednesday in the single-elimation event.
