Hawaii Island police arrested 15 drivers for suspected drunken driving between March 24 and Sunday; six were involved in traffic accidents.

Police have made 327 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 334 during the same period in 2013, according to the Hawaii County Police Department.

South Hilo officers arrested seven motorists, Kona officers four and Puna officers three. Officers in the Ka’u District arrested one motorist.

There have been 409 major accidents this year compared with 330 during the same period in 2013.

To date, there have been three traffic fatalities on Big Island public roadways compared with 11 at this time in 2013. To date, one of the fatalities was related to drugs and one to a combination of alcohol and drugs, according to police.
