LIHUE, Kauai — A salvage plan is being prepared for a shrimping vessel that went aground at Hanapepe.

Hawaii state boating officials the 55-foot boat was anchored in the bay, waiting to refuel Monday.

The Garden Island reported crew members had come ashore and no one was aboard as an anchor watch when the anchor line either broke or slipped.

Authorities responded Sunday afternoon to a report of a boat on the reef. The Coast Guard also was notified.

Officials say no action was initially taken because the vessel was not hard aground. Officials say the vessel remained on the rocks, however, because of a lack of action from the vessel’s captain and crew.

Officials say the center pontoon hull has been compromised. The boat’s owner is working on salvaging the vessel.
