Buddhist Women’s Associations meeting held in Keauhou

Hawaii Federation of Buddhist Women’s Associations holds a state membership conference May 3 and 4 at Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay.

The conference is held every four years. The theme of the conference is “Peace and Oneness of Life.” The program will consist of services, lunch keynote speaker Duane Kurisu, workshops and a banquet with entertainment.

Information will be provided about the 15th World Buddhist Women’s Associations Convention. Resolutions and new business may be presented.

Chamber ensemble performing

Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble will say “Mahalo and Good Bye” with its sixth concert of the season.

The ensemble will perform as a duo oboe/bassoon and piano. Ursula and Roland will present a varied mixture of music from different periods. Bohemian music by the early classic composer Johann Stamitz, a sonata by Francois Devienne, a piece by Mozart and other pearls will enrich this program.

Concerts are scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hualalai Academy Bridge Building in Kailua-Kona and at 5 p.m. April 12 at the Kahilu Theatre lobby in Waimea.

Kona Orchid Society meets Friday

The Kona Orchid Society meets at 6 p.m. Friday in the Hualalai Academy Bridge Building, located at 74-4966 Kealakaa St. in Kailua-Kona.

Roy Tokunaga of H&R Nurseries in Honolulu will speak on latouria and formosae dendrobiums. The talk will include some plants in bloom, as well as pictures and culture.

Plants may be ordered ahead of time for pick up at the event by visiting the H&R Nurseries website. Participants may also bring pest-free plants in bloom for a show-and-tell. A potluck will be held at 6:15 p.m.

Sign waving planned for Child Abuse Prevention Month

Sign waving will raise awareness of child abuse and neglect in the community from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Kuakini Highway and Kalani Street.

Bring signs and wear blue, the national color of child abuse awareness. Call the Neighborhood Place of Kona for more information at 331-8777.
