College fair slated Monday at Kealakehe High
The Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling a college fair from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Kealakehe High School gymnasium. Students and parents from all schools are welcome to attend this free event.

Shimamoto named to Bryan College dean’s list
Ashley Shimamoto of Kailua-Kona has earned a spot on the Bryan College of Health Sciences president’s list. To be on the president’s list, a student must be taking at least 10 credit hours and receive a 4.0 grade point average.
Shimamoto, a sophomore, is majoring in health professions. She is the daughter of Michael Shimamoto and Michele Shimamoto of Puu Lani Ranch and a 2004 graduate of Kealakehe High School.
The school is located in Lincoln, Neb.
Rumley scholarship offered by Rotary Club
The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise is offering a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of Tess Rumley to any West Hawaii high school senior, including those who have been home-schooled. Students applying for this scholarship must be registered in either a two-year program at any community college or trade school. All fields of study are welcome to apply. Payment of the scholarship will be made to the college or trade school where the student is registered at and will be submitted in one payment.
This scholarship will be weighted based on financial need, merit and community service involvement. Two letters of reference are required. At least one should be from a teacher or instructor who can share information regarding the student’s career ambitions. Applicants must provide either FAFSA or EFC data with the application form.

Lions Club of Kona offers scholarships
The Lions Club of Kona is accepting scholarship applications from graduating Konawaena High School seniors.
The club will be awarding a total of six scholarships — two general scholarships, one financial need scholarship, one community service scholarship, one scholarship for a two-year program, and one Jonney Pha Hodges Trust Scholarship, which is awarded to a senior majoring in a medical related field.
Deadline to apply is Friday. Applications can be picked up from Konawaena counselor Aaron Hashimoto.
Scholarship available to four Kona seniors
Kona Business and Professional Women are accepting applications for its annual $1,000 scholarships awarded to four Kona high school seniors planning on attending college or university.
High school seniors interested in this scholarship are requested to see their school scholarship counselors for applications or call Gay Okada at 895-1882.

Two Big Island principals honored by foundation
Kris Cosa-Correia, Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School principal, and Chad Keone-Farias, Keaau Elementary School principal, are among 13 outstanding public school principals nominated for the Island Insurance Foundation’s 10th annual Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award. The foundation has presented each nominee with a $1,000 personal cash award and commemorative plaque.
The recipient of the annual award, named in honor of the late Masayuki Tokioka, founder of Island Insurance Co., Ltd., will be announced at the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation Dinner on May 1.
The selected principal will receive a $10,000 personal cash award and an additional $15,000 for a school project of his or her choice. Two semifinalists will receive a $2,000 personal cash award. The award recipient is being selected by a committee composed of selected Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation Board members and professionals in the education field. This year’s awards program was open to all public school principals.
Groves headed to state geography bee
Daniel Groves, an eighth-grade student at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2014 Hawaii National Geographic Bee at the Neil S. Blaisdell Center on Friday. The event is sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 26th year.
The state winner will receive $100, the “Complete National Geographic on DVD,” and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent Hawaii in the National Geographic Bee finals May 19 to 21.
