The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured member for April is multimedia artist Sue Mailander.

Mailander is known for her colorful semi-abstract paintings, woodcut prints and collages that speak of her enjoyment of Hawaii’s lush foliage and sea life. Her woodcuts are traditional in presentation but she moves beyond convention, embellishing surfaces with paint droplets and the traditional Japanese sashiko.

Mailander has been a member of the cooperative since its opening in 2009; she was a member of Kailua Village Artists for the previous 20 years.

The Blue Sea Artisans will host a featured artist’s reception for Mailander from 1 to 4 p.m. April 12 at its Kona International Market gallery. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
