Reaction to property tax comment tells the story

The joke is on Big Island property owners.

When Mayor Billy Kenoi said to Brenda Ford, “You must have a nice house” in reference to her property tax increase, the agency heads and employees all laughed. This pretty much indicates the attitude of government. They are giving out agency head raises at the property owners expense and laughing about it.

They formed a property tax review committee made up of mainly Hilo representatives. This will never result in any changes. It would have to be done by a group outside of government, such as the group that did the initial property tax study.

Government will never have enough money. The mayor’s even suggested adding to the excise tax.
