Quintin Gary John Aiona, 54, of Hilo died March 28, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born Dec. 15, 1959 in Hilo.

Pati Kaluna
Pati Puakinamu Kali Kaluna, 62, of Pahala died March 9, 2014, in Pahala. Born Nov. 19, 1951, in Lihue, Kauai, she was a homemaker.

Namie Kayano, 91, of Hilo died March 24, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Kealakekua, she was a homemaker and member of Pahala Hongwanji Mission Kyodan and Buddhist Women’s Association.

Apolinar Madamba
Apolinar “Ponar” Ranchez Madamba, 87, of Keaau died March 14, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born Feb. 2, 1927, in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a flower nursery worker and member of Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Puna Saranay Club.
Friends may call at 5 p.m. April 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may call again at 8 a.m. April 12 at the Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial is at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Rachel McDonagh
Rachel (also known as Barbara, Bobbi, Liko) Susan McDonagh, 63, of Captain Cook died March 30, 2014, at home. Born May 27, 1950, in Manhatten, N.Y., she worked as an elementary teacher in Naalehu and she authored two published children’s books.
Friends may call at 5 p.m. April 10 at Kahaluu Beach Park pavilion for a service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hawaii Community Foundation for the Stein Family Scholarship fund.
She is survived by cousins, Mark Goldberg of Coral Springs, Fla., Joanie Levine and Martin Schuler, both of New York.

Kwanji Fukuyama
Kwanji Fukuyama, 90, of Kohala died March 23, 2014, at Kohala Hospital. Born May 17, 1923, in Kohala, he was a retired electrician from the Hawaii County Department of Water Supply, an electrician for the former Kohala Sugar Mill, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Kalahikiola Congregational Church, a past member and officer of Kohala Trollers, a past member of Kawaihae Trolling Club and Kohala Young Farmers.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. April 12 at Kalahikiola Congregational Church in Kohala for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests aloha attire be worn and no flowers.

Milton “Naka” Mitsuo Nakagawa, 63, of Honokaa died March 18, 2014, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born April 14, 1950, in Honokaa, he was an irrigation manager for South Kohala Water Corp., former golf course superintendent for Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, Air Force veteran and member of Hamakua Jodo Mission, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Big Island Golf Course Superintendents Association and Honokaa Qi Gong.

Walter Sugi
Walter Kazuo Sugi, 90, of Honaunau died Feb. 11, 2014. Born Oct. 23, 1923, in Honaunau, he was a retired electrician for American Electric Co., a coffee farmer, Army veteran and member of Honaunau Kumiai No. 3, Korean War Veterans Association Inc. West Hawaii Chapter No. 279, American Legion Post No. 60, Local Union No. 1186, International Brotherhood of Electric Workers and Kona Historical Society and a supporter of the VFW.
Friends may call at 2 p.m. April 12 at the Kona Outdoor Circle Educational Center, 76-6280 Kuakini Highway, for a 3 p.m. service. A private inurnment will be held. Family requests casual or aloha attire be worn and no flowers.

Lucille Maria “Piilani” Aki, 59, of Hilo died March 29, 2014. Born in Hilo, she worked at Hilo High School as an educational assistant, CSAP program and May Day coordinator, was assistant manager at Kinney Shoes and held various roles at Chiefess Kapiolani Elementary School including educational assistant and vice principal.
No services are planned.
She is survived by daughter, Corinne Inada-Aki of Hilo; brothers, Ernest Kahili of Hilo, Ronald (Kathy) Kekoa of Maine; sisters, Eva Inada and Antoinette (Joseph) Kaipo, both of Hilo; hanai daughter, Karen Ikeda; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnephews.

Rosemary E. “Rosie” Korlath, 67, of St. Paul, Minn., died April 3, 2014.

Taylor Maves
Taylor Mathew Maves, 23, of Boise, Idaho, died March 15, 2014, at home. Born May 17, 1990, in Nampa, Idaho, he was a student at the College of Western Idaho and an artist.

James Minato
James Toshiyuki Minato, 92, of Hilo died March 14, 2014, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Dec. 18, 1921, in Hilo, he was a retired director from the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Workers’ Compensation Division, a World War II Army veteran, former member and retired captain of the Hawaii Army National Guard, served with the U.S. Navy Seabees and was a member of the Church of World Messianity.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
He is survived by son, Fredrick Minato of Aiea, Oahu; daughter, Carol (Ronald) Kashimoto of Honolulu; stepdaughter, Rose Marie (Harold Matsunaga) Kurita of Lihue, Kauai; sisters, Teruko Okumura and Karen Yamada, both of California; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
