Kaylie Drew hit a two-run home run and Colleen Aubrey followed with a solo shot to lead the University of Hawaii at Hilo to a 3-2 win over Hawaii Pacific University in the first game of a twinbill Saturday.

The Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader was played at the Vulcans Field. In Game 2, the visiting Sea Warriors defeated UH-Hilo 9-1 in a five-inning TKO contest.

UH-Hilo (19-17 overall, 12-11 PacWest) closes out its home season today, with a 1 p.m. twinbill against Chaminade University. It’s Senior Day for Vulcans Rebecca Lee, Kristina Victa, Alyse Harris and Arren Nunez.

HPU (16-21, 14-12) scored two runs in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead in Game 1. But in the bottom of the sixth, Drew, a sophomore out of Fallbrook, Calif., clubbed her two-run homer to left center to tie the score at 2-2. Then Aubrey, a junior from Sunnyvale, Calif., drilled her home run to center field to make it 3-2.

UH-Hilo starter Ashley Nelson (11-9) shut out HPU in the seventh to seal the victory. Nelson went the distance to earn the win, scattering six hits and striking out four. HPU starter Kristen Caskey (6-14) took the loss.

Lee and Brittany Huff each had two hits to lead the Vulcans. Toni Baysa had two hits for the Sea Warriors.

In Game 2, Charlisse Tanabe had three hits, including two homers, and four RBIs to lead the Sea Warriors. Huff was the only Vulcan to pair hits.

Caskey (7-14) went the distance for the HPU win. UH-Hilo starter Harris (1-1) took the loss.
