Ethel Gushiken
Ethel Fumiyo “Fumi” Gushiken, 87, of Hilo, died April 7, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Jan. 31, 1927, in Pepeekeo, she was a retired seamstress for Hilo Hattie, worked at Waiakeawaena School, and was a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and Hui Okinawa.
Private services were held.
She is survived by husband, George Gushiken; sons, Jason (Christine) Gushiken, Leslie Gushiken, Gerald Gushiken all of Hilo; sisters, Nellie Hatsume (Tom) Taise, of Honolulu, Doris Matsue Nagamine of Hilo; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Dora Mori
Dora Takako Mori, 89, of Holualoa died April 11, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 3, 1924, in Hakalau, she retired as a school secretary at Kailua Elementary and Kealakehe Elementary and Intermediate schools. She was a member of Waiaha Kumiai, Fukuoka Kenjin Kai, Senior Bowling League and the Parks and Recreation Bowling League. She was also a volunteer with Kona Senior Coordinated Services and the Blood Bank of Hawaii.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 26 at Lanakila Congregational Church in Kainaliu for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and monetary gifts be omitted.
She is survived by sons, Randall (Susan) Mori of Holualoa, Bryant (Gay) Mori of Los Angeles, Rickie (Debra) Mori of Holualoa, Elson (Lillian) Mori of Kealakehe; daughter, Gwendolyn (Charles) Onaka of Honaunau; brothers, Paul (Jane) Sakamoto of Honolulu, Tadao (Miyoko) Sakamoto of Honaunau, Larry (Ann) Sakamoto of Las Vegas; sisters, Audrey Takano of Kailua, Oahu, Kay Matsuda of Kaneohe, Oahu, Jane Iyama of San Francisco, Pauline (Albert) Morita of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joseph Kamaka
Joseph “Joe” Kaimiola Kamaka, 60, of Kihei, Maui died April 4, 2014, at his residence. Born March 18, 1954, in Kealakekua, he was a carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 26 at Honaunau Beach, Henry Cho Ohana Beach lot, for a service. Refreshments will be served. The family requests casual attire be worn.

Hannah Nardini
Hannah Hanayo Nardini, 87, of Hilo died April 2, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 22, 1926, in Honolulu, she was a former employee of the Law Offices of Carlsmith and a member of Komohana Kumiai and AARP, Hilo chapter.
Private services were held.
She is survived by son, David Nardini, of Hilo; brother, Richard Will of Honolulu; and two grandchildren.

Norma Scott
Norma “Scotty” Jean Scott, 79, of Hilo died April 5, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Sept. 16, 1934, in New York City, she was a licensed architect for Media 5 and Group 70. She was a member of the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art and YWCA, a docent for the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo &Gardens, and a volunteer for RSVP.

Jay Neumann
Jay Fredrick Neumann, 68, of Kainaliu died March 29, 2014, at his home. Born Sept. 14, 1945, in La Jolla, Calif., he was a plumbing contractor, owner of Preferred Plumbing and Talking Dolphin Records, and a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.

He is survived by son, Jayson Neumann of Kainaliu; daughters, Marama Patrick of Kapaau, Angela Neumann of Makawao, Maui; sisters, Anne Neumann of Kurtistown, Jackie (William) Parecki of Pahoa; brothers, Dan Neumann of La Pine, Ore., Gregory Neumann of San Francisco, Jeffrey Neumann of Pahoa, Mark Neumann, William Neumann; two nephews and three nieces.

Rita Sarme
Rita Helen Sarme, 74, of Papaikou died April 12, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born June 2, 1939, in Hilo, she was a homemaker and a veteran in the U.S. Army Women’s Army Corps. She was also a member of the Papaikou Babes softball team and a volunteer at Kalanianaole school library.

Tessie Tagudan Emerson, 51, of Tracy, Calif., died April 10, 2014, at Stanford Hospital of California. She was born Dec. 27, 1962, in the Philippines.

Joyce Akana
Joyce Emma Akana, 77, of Kapaau died April 10, 2014, at her residence. Born June 21, 1936, in Kohala, she was a homemaker. She also worked as a cook at Luke’s Restaurant, a server at McDonald’s in Waimea and a receptionist at Sunshine Helicopters. She was also a member of Kohala Senior Citizens and Waimea Church of Christ.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 21 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hawi for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will be held in the Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

Prosper Tomich
Prosper Quentin Tomich, 93, of Honokaa died March 11, 2014, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Oct. 11, 1920, in Orange Vale, Calif., he was an animal ecologist, a U.S. Navy veteran, a farmer and an avid telephone insulator collector. He helped preserve the native forest tract which, in 1970, became Kalopa Native Forest State Park. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Hamakua District Development Council, the Hamakua Humanities Project, the Conservation Council for Hawaii, the State Natural Area Reserves Commission, and was a founding member of the North Hawaii Community Hospital board of directors. He was the author of many scientific papers and several books, and was a member of the UC Berkeley Alumni Association and numerous scientific organizations.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 26 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. service. Refreshments will follow in the parish hall. An additional service will he held later at Kalopa State Park. Family requests casual attire be worn. In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, donations may be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, North Hawaii Community Hospital or Conservation Council for Hawaii.
