VOLLEYBALL

There were a pair of dramatic five-set Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division II volleyball matches on Saturday, one of which extended the regular season by a couple of days.

In Pahoa, Kohala outlasted the Daggers 17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-27, 15-13, forcing a playoff game between the 4-7 teams at 7 p.m. Monday in Kapaau.

The Dragons (7-4) await the winner at 2:30 Friday in the BIIF semifinals at Kealakehe High. In the 4 p.m. semifinal, HPA (6-5) faces the Trojans (5-6).

The Division I semifinals follow. Kamehameha (11-0), which already owns a state spot, takes on Kealakehe (6-5) at 5:30 p.m., and Waiakea (10-1) and Hilo (9-2) meet at 7 p.m.

There is one more state spot available in both D-I and D-II.
