A District Court judge maintained bail at $275,000 for a Waikoloa man charged with attempted murder.

Police arrested Joel White, 35, on Thursday, after responding to a Malie Street home in Waikoloa, where they found a 20-year-old man bleeding from his torso and throat. White made his initial court appearance Monday and was scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing today, according to court records.

Police charged White with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree burglary. Police said White and the victim were acquaintances. White went to the victim’s home, where he and the victim got into an altercation. The victim was cut by a sharp object, then ran to another house.

The victim was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital for treatment. He remained hospitalized Monday, police said.

Court records show White’s attorney requested Monday to have White’s bail reduced, but District Court Judge Joseph P. Florendo denied the request.
