Four Big Island schools made U.S. News & World Report’s list of best public high schools for 2014.
Keaau High School, Kealakehe High School, Kohala High School, and Pahoa High & Intermediate School, all of which received a bronze medal, were among the 12 Hawaii schools on the coveted list.
U.S. News & World Report, a nationally recognized publisher of education news and information, reviewed 31,242 U.S. public high schools on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.
The top schools in the state were as follows: Kalani High School in Honolulu, President William McKinley High School in Honolulu, King Kekaulike High School on Maui and Waialua High & Intermediate School on Oahu. All four were given a silver medal.
Kalani High, identified as Hawaii’s No. 1 school, was nationally ranked 1,009 place.
The other notable Hawaii schools included Education Laboratory Public Charter School, James Campbell High School, Kihei Public Charter School, and Myron B. Thompson Academy Public Charter School.
Besides ranking of the nation’s 4,707 highest-scoring schools, there are profiles on more than 19,400 high schools.
