A small craft advisory is in effect for Hawaii Island waters, according to National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu.
The advisory lasts until 6 p.m. Saturday for leeward, southeast and windward waters as well as the Alenuihaha Channel, according to the service.
Forecasters are calling for east winds of 25 to 30 knots — or about 29 to 34 mph — with gusts reaching 40 knots — or 46 mph — and rough seas of 8 to 15 feet, according to the service.
A small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 25 knots to 33 knots and/or seas of 10 feet or greater are expected to produce conditions hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in these conditions, according to the service.
