A flood advisory has been issued for areas of Hawaii Island until 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
At 12:12 p.m., radar showed moderate to heavy rainfall in the Hilo and Puna districts, according to National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu. Forecasters said the showers will combine with earlier rainfall, possibly producing localized flooding.
The service noted the following areas in the advisory: Hilo, Papaikou and Hawaiian Paradise Park.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding, according to the service. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
