Child care providers luncheon is Saturday
West Hawaii PATCH will host a Provider Appreciation Day luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to honor the child care providers, teachers, and educators of young children in the community.
The event is held in conjunction with National Provider Appreciation Day which is Friday.
Also, for the fourth year running, PATCH will be celebrating Hawaii’s favorite preschool teacher and family child care provider. Visit patchhawaii.org before midnight May 15 to nominate your favorite provider

Park programs planned in Volcano
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park announces its May program schedule. All events are free, but park entrance fees apply.
The park is launching its first Artist-in-Residence program. The debut artist will be Hawaiian featherwork artist Rick Makanaaloha Kiaimeaokekanaka San Nicolas. He will provide a public exhibit and lecture from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium.
The 1924 Explosive Eruption of Kilauea will be the topic of a talk from 7 to 8 p.m. May 13 in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium.
Teana Kahoohanohano shares her knowledge and love of hula adornments and shows how ti leaves are used to create wristlets and anklets worn for certain hula dances from 10 a.m. to noon May 14 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.
Sam Low presents his film, “The Navigators: Pathfinders of the Pacific” from 7 to 8 p.m. May 20 in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium. The film tells the story of how Polynesian seafarers explored and settled the vast ocean using only natural signs to guide them.
Mark Yamanaka will perform original songs from his debut CD, “Lei Pua Kenikeni” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 21 in the Kilauea Visitor Center Auditorium.
Keiki of all ages can join park rangers for a day of activities in the park’s Kahuku Unit at the 70.5 mile marker of Highway 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 24. A free lunch will be provided. Sign up by May 16 by calling 985-6019.
Finally, the art of banboo stamp carving will be demonstarted from 10 a.m. to noon May 28 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai.

Learn to cook a healthy breakfast
Learn how to make breakfast recipes using healthy ingredients from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Waimea Community Center.
Lower in fat and without refined sugar, the easy-to-prepare recipes include a strawberry shortcake smoothie, pineapple coconut muffins, tempeh sausage patties, and tofu scramble with leeks, mushrooms and goat cheese.
Class fee is $15, which includes recipes and food tasting. Registration is required. Contact Parks and Recreation Culture and Education Section at 961-8706 to reserve space.
Masons dinner meeting Wednesday
Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Wednesday at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., No. 7 in Kailua-Kona. Dinner is served at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. and then dessert.
