Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Monday night at Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo.

A 44-year-old Hilo man reported an unknown man punched him and took his backpack at approximately 8:40 p.m. Monday, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

The suspect was described as a “local” male, 5-foot-7-inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, and wearing slippers and unknown clothing. He was last seen heading south on Lihiwai Street in what may have been a dark blue older-model Honda CRV.

Anyone with information about this case should call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
