Waimea Community Theatre has cast the perennial favorite comedy by William Shakespeare, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for presentation as the group’s 50th anniversary spring production, scheduled to open May 16 at the historic Parker School Theatre in Waimea.
Director Felicity Johnson has assembled a cast that is abundant in talent, and that includes new faces to the performing arts stage in Waimea.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a story of lovers, fairies, workmen, and a royal court based in Morocco. Theseus, Duke of Morocco, is about to be married to Hippolyta and they are planning their wedding celebration. Meanwhile, four young lovers are all mixed up with Lysander and Demetrius both in love with Hermia while Hermia wants to marry Lysander but Hermia’s father wants her to marry Demetrius.
In the upcoming Waimea Community Theatre production, Theseus will be played by Steve Taylor; Hippolyta will be played by Kelly Barrik the first weekend and by Cindy Boyd the second weekend; Hermia’s father Egeus by Bill Cruise and Hermia by Hope Boyd; lovers Demetrius and Lysander by Max Von Keudell and Bryden Jones; and Helena by Amelia Wirth. Dave Merrin and Dedrie Miller appear as Fairy King and Queen, Oberon and Titania; Mick Miller as Puck, Tahirih Ajimine as Cobweb, Beyonce Corpuz as Peaseblossom, Maren Luana Weick as Mustardseed, and Payton Kendrick as Moth. Other Fairies will be played by Gemma Palleschi and Madde Bailey. The head Workman Quince will be played by John Sucke, Bottom by Wilbor Boyd, Snout by Brian Thomas, Snug by Colin Edsman, Starveling by Daniel Bal, and Flute by Tanner Legler.
Directed by Felecity Johnson and Produced by Daniel Bal, the play will be peformed at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 3 p.m. Sundays May 16 through May 28 at Parker Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults, with discounts for seniors, students, children, military, and for advance purchase.
