LOS ANGELES — Yasiel Puig and Dee Gordon broke open a tie game with consecutive RBI doubles in the seventh inning against San Francisco’s bullpen, Matt Kemp homered in the eighth and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the NL West-leading Giants 6-2 Saturday.
Zack Greinke (6-1) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking three. The right-hander extended his streak to 20 consecutive starts in which he’s allowed fewer than three runs — the longest by any pitcher since the “dead ball” era.
The Dodgers took the lead in the seventh against reliever Jeremy Affeldt (0-1) when Drew Butera doubled and scored on Gordon’s hit inside third base with Pablo Sandoval playing in on the grass with the Dodgers’ speedy leadoff hitter at bat. Puig then greeted Jean Machi with a ground-rule double into the left field corner.
PADRES 9, MARLINS 3
SAN DIEGO — Chase Headley hit a three-run homer in his return to the lineup, Seth Smith drove in four runs and San Diego had a second straight big night at the plate.
Headley, who came off the 15-day disabled list before the game, connected on a 2-2 fastball from Carlos Marmol (0-3) to cap a four-run sixth inning and give the Padres a 6-2 lead.
San Diego, which came in averaging a major league-low 2.8 runs per game, was coming off its highest scoring output since Sept. 25, a 10-1 win over Miami on Friday.
Smith hit a solo homer, a two-run double and an RBI triple for the Padres, who matched Friday night’s total of 13 hits.
Casey McGehee hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the Marlins, whose road record dropped to 3-12, worst in the majors.
BRAVES 2, CUBS 0
ATLANTA — Ervin Santana pitched five-hit ball for seven innings to remain unbeaten, Ryan Doumit snapped a scoreless tie with a pinch-hit double in the seventh and Atlanta beat Chicago.
Santana (4-0) overcame a rain delay in the third inning and outlasted Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija, who had his long winless streak continue. Samardzija lowered his ERA to 1.45, second in the NL, but he is still without a win this season.
Santana walked one and struck out seven. Samardzija allowed only two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in six innings.
Braves left fielder Justin Upton is day to day with a lower back muscle bruise after being hit by a pitch from Samardzija in the sixth and leaving the game.
Braves closer Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 10th save.
PIRATES 4, CARDINALS 3
PITTSBURGH — Pedro Alvarez singled in the go-ahead run and Pittsburgh won its season-high fourth straight game.
Alvarez’s hit capped a four-run fourth inning against Lance Lynn (4-2) that helped the Pirates wipe out a 3-0 deficit.
Josh Harrison and Ike Davis each had two hits for the Pirates, who have won 11 of their last 14 games against the Cardinals in Pittsburgh. Harrison also hit an RBI single in the fourth.
Jared Hughes (2-0) retired all four batters he faced in relief of starter Edinson Volquez. Mark Melancon earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
Pirates outfielder Starling Marte was lifted for a pinch-hitter because of tightness in his lower back.
ROCKIES 11, REDS 2
CINCINNATI — Corey Dickerson hit two home runs and two doubles, driving in a career-high four runs for Colorado.
Charlie Blackmon, Justin Morneau and Troy Tulowitzki also homered for the Rockies. Nolan Arenado doubled twice, a day after his 28-game hitting streak ended.
The Rockies got 11 extra-base hits, making things easy for Jordan Lyles (5-0). He struck out eight in six innings and left with a 10-2 lead.
Alfredo Simon (4-2) was tagged for a season-high eight hits and five runs in three innings.
PHILLIES 5, METS 4
NEW YORK — Ryan Howard had four hits, including a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning, and Jimmy Rollins homered and scored four times to lead Philadelphia past slumping New York.
Chase Utley drove in two runs for the Phillies, who have won the first two games of the series against their NL East foes after dropping four straight to Toronto.
David Wright hit his first home run since opening day, ending the longest drought of his career, and had three RBIs. But the Mets wasted another great chance to score in the late innings, losing their fifth straight and eighth in nine games.
Following some confusion in the eighth, Philadelphia reliever Mike Adams (2-1) escaped a major jam by retiring pinch-hitter Bobby Abreu on a bases-loaded comebacker to keep it tied.
BREWERS 5, YANKEES 4
MILWAUKEE — Rickie Weeks hit a two-out RBI single after Jonathan Lucroy moved to third on a balk, Francisco Rodriguez earned his league-leading 15th save and Milwaukee snapped a three-game skid.
Lucroy, Carlos Gomez and Aramis Ramirez each homered off Yankees starter CC Sabathia.
Weeks’ chopper skipped through the hole into left in the seventh off Alfredo Aceves (0-1), who was called for a balk two pitches earlier.
Rodriguez allowed two flyouts to the warning track in right in a scoreless ninth. The veteran closer hasn’t allowed a run in 19 appearances this season.
Zach Duke (3-0) got the win after escaping a seventh-inning jam by getting Carlos Beltran to bounce into a double play.
ORIOLES 5, ASTROS 4
BALTIMORE — Steve Clevenger hit an RBI double in the 10th inning to extend Baltimore’s winning streak to five games with a victory over Houston.
J.J. Hardy had an infield single with one out in the 10th before Clevenger hit a double down the right field line off Paul Clemens (0-1).
The Astros have lost seven of their past eight games.
Houston’s Jose Altuve hit a two-out, two RBI single in the ninth inning off Baltimore closer Tommy Hunter that gave the Astros a 4-3 lead.
However, Astros right-hander Anthony Bass loaded the bases with two outs on two singles and a walk before pinch hitter Delmon Young tied the game with an infield single.
Ryan Webb (2-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for Baltimore.
ATHLETICS 4, NATIONALS 3, 10 INNINGS
OAKLAND, Calif. — John Jaso doubled in pinch-runner Nick Punto with two outs in the 10th inning to lift Oakland over Washington.
The A’s scored twice in the ninth off Nationals’ closer Rafael Soriano to force extras and storm back for their third walk-off win this season after being limited to two hits over the first eight innings.
Alberto Callaspo singled off reliever Drew Storen (2-1) to lead off the 10th before Punto replaced him at first. Storen retired Eric Sogard and Derek Norris before Jaso hit a towering fly ball that ricocheted off the scoreboard in right field as Punto rounded the bases and scored.
Sean Doolittle (1-2) pitched one inning for the win to help Oakland overcome an uneven outing by starter Sonny Gray.
The Nationals were three outs from winning and had their rock-solid closer on the mound before Oakland greeted Soriano with three consecutive hits to open the ninth.
RED SOX 8, RANGERS 3
ARLINGTON, Texas — David Ortiz homered and doubled, Shane Victorino drove in four runs with three hits and Boston beat Texas.
A night after they managed only a single by Ortiz off Yu Darvish, the Red Sox broke loose. And there will be no official scoring debates for Ortiz after he hit his seventh home run and lined a double into the right-field corner.
Jon Lester (4-4) gave up three runs and four hits in seven innings, a week after striking out a career-high 15 against Oakland. The lefty struck out eight, matching Detroit’s Max Scherzer at 66 for the American League lead.
Ortiz broke up Darvish’s no-hit bid Friday night with a clean single with two outs in the ninth inning. There also was his towering flyball in the seventh that dropped untouched but was ruled an error after Darvish had retired the first 20 Red Sox hitters, a scoring decision Ortiz indicated Saturday that he will appeal.
Ortiz pulled the first pitch of the third into the right-field seats. His double came an inning later, when he scored as a part of a four-run outburst for a 6-0 lead.
Martin Perez (4-3) lost his third consecutive start since the end of his 26-inning scoreless streak. The lefty allowed six runs and 14 base runners (nine hits, four walks and a hit batter) in only 3 2-3 innings.
ANGELS 5, BLUE JAYS 3
TORONTO — Tyler Skaggs pitched into the ninth inning and retired 21 straight batters, leading Los Angeles over Toronto.
Rookie C.J. Cron hit his first major league homer and Chris Iannetta added a two-run shot as Angels won their sixth in a row at Toronto dating to 2012.
Angels bench coach Dino Ebel ran the team for the second straight day while manager Mike Scioscia attended his daughter’s college graduation. Scioscia is due to return Sunday.
Skaggs (3-1) gave up two earned runs and four hits, leaving after Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera started the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back singles.
Skaggs retired Dioner Navarro on a fly ball to end the first inning and didn’t permit another runner until the eighth.
Joe Smith gave up an RBI single to Jose Bautista in the ninth, then got Edwin Encarnacion to ground into a forceout. Navarro made it 5-3 with an RBI single before Smith got pinch-hitter Adam Lind to ground into a double play for his fourth save in six chances.
Making his second start since moving from the bullpen into the rotation last Monday, J.A. Happ (1-1) lasted just 2 1-3 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits.
TIGERS 9, TWINS 3
DETROIT — Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer that capped a six-run second inning, sending Max Scherzer and Detroit past Minnesota.
On a day when the Tigers honored former manager Jim Leyland, they won with a familiar formula they used to reach the playoffs under him: Power by Cabrera, the two-time AL MVP, and pitching by Scherzer, the reigning Cy Young Award winner.
Cabrera connected for his fifth homer, tagging Kyle Gibson (3-3). Victor Martinez also homered, giving him eight this season and four in the last six games.
Scherzer (5-1) wasn’t sharp yet still won, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out six — his team-record streak of fanning at least seven in seven starts to begin a season ended.
DIAMONDBACKS 4, WHITE SOX 3
CHICAGO — Wade Miley pitched seven strong innings, Cody Ross had three hits and Arizona beat Chicago.
Miley (3-3) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six and not allowing a walk. His only mistake came on an 0-1 pitch in the fifth inning that Paul Konerko hit over the left-field fence for a two-run home run.
Former White Sox closer Addison Reed flirted with disaster in his first meeting against his former team before getting his 11th save in 12 chances. Reed, who was traded to the Diamondbacks from the White Sox in the offseason, gave up a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Conor Gillaspie, who ended up scoring on Alexei Ramirez’s two-out single. Ramirez stole second but was stranded after Reed got Konerko to bounce out to second.
The White Sox lost for just the second time in seven games.
White Sox starter Jose Quintana (1-3) went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
RAYS 7, INDIANS 1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Erik Bedard gave up one hit in six shutout innings, James Loney had three hits and drove in two runs, and Tampa Bay broke a four-game skid with a victory over Cleveland.
Winning his second straight start after 15 consecutive starts without a win, Bedard gave up a double to Ryan Raburn in the second inning, Cleveland’s only hit until Lonnie Chisenhall led off the ninth with a single off Grant Balfour.
Juan Carlos Oviedo took over in the seventh for Bedard (2-1) and pitched two perfect innings.
Zach McAllister (3-3) gave up eight hits and five runs in 4 1-3 innings for the Indians, who had won four straight. McAllister is winless in four starts since winning three straight.
MARINERS 3, ROYALS 1
SEATTLE — Chris Young pitched eight efficient innings, Justin Smoak and Dustin Ackley homered, and Seattle beat Kansas City.
Young (3-0) allowed three hits, while striking out three and walking none. The tall right-hander needed just 96 pitches, setting down the lineup in order in five of his eight innings.
Fernando Rodney pitched around a two-out single in the ninth inning to record his 11th save in 12 attempts.
Smoak gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the fourth, hitting a no-doubter into the seats in right field for a two-run home run.
Ackley added a solo shot to right in the sixth inning off Royals starter Yordano Ventura.
Ventura (2-2) allowed three runs in 6 1-3 innings. The right-hander issued a season-high four walks, while notching a season-low three strikeouts.
