Police are investigating a possible arson case in Puna.

Firefighters on Monday extinguished a fire that destroyed a three-story unpermitted structure on Akanikolea Street in Pahoa. According to the Fire Department, the fire was reported at about 9 a.m. Monday and was out at 10 a.m. No one was injured. The damage was estimated at about $30,000.

By the time police officers and firefighters arrived on the scene, the three-story house had already burned to the ground. Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are investigating the fire and have not ruled out arson.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call thepolice department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
