HONOLULU — Hawaii’s governor is ordering flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

President Barack Obama proclaimed that Thursday is Peace Officers Memorial Day and that U.S. flags must be lowered to half-staff.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie is ordering the same for Hawaii flags.

President John F. Kennedy in 1962 proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, which honors law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Abercrombie and Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui have also issued a proclamation designating this week as police week in Hawaii.
