Hawaii Fire Department personnel battled a large structure fire late Thursday evening at a Suisan warehouse off Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo.

Responding to the 10:32 p.m. report, firefighters arrived at the warehouse and office facility to find the western end of the building engulfed in flames, according to the department. Primary and secondary searches determined no occupants were in the building after the fire was extinguished at 3:30 a.m.

Firefighters utilized turret and attack lines to control the fire as well as a blitz line to protect the eastern end of the building, according to the department. The fire was listed as under control at 1:05 a.m.

Kamehameha Avenue was closed for several hours while emergency crews remained on the scene. No injuries were reported and no evacuations were ordered.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Fire officials have yet to provide an estimate on the loss.
