Auntie’s Angels seeks produce donations
Auntie’s Angels will hold its monthly Soup Kitchen and Pantry for low-income seniors living at Hualalai Elderly Housing on Saturday. Donations of fresh fruits and vegetables are requested. Farmers and property owners may bring their excess produce that can be shared with the seniors. Boxed produce can be dropped off on Thursday or Friday by calling Jan at 329-7897.
Student credit unions seek board members
The student credit unions at Kealakehe and Konawaena high schools are accepting applications to fill volunteer board of director positions for the 2014-15 school year. The student credit union operates on-campus branches where students can conduct financial transactions such as opening an account and making deposits and withdrawals. They are run by a volunteer board of directors made up of students. The board attends monthly meetings held on campus.
Board members will be invited to attend a training session on June 28 at the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room in Kaloko that will teach them how to conduct a board or business meeting, how to create and follow a budget, how to implement a marketing campaign and on general financial literacy topics. Police plan ‘active shooter’ presentation
The Hawaii Police Department will make an “active shooter” presentation from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the pavilion at the Old Kona Airport Park.
The first portion of the meeting will allow the public to meet the police department’s command staff and to discuss police related concerns with the police chief and commanders who oversee police operations in West Hawaii.
The second portion of the meeting will be an awareness presentation to help individuals increase their survivability should they encounter an active shooter or other type of violent situation. The presentation will provide information on previous incidents of mass violence, recent events, best practices for those caught in such a situation, understanding law enforcement’s response and how to work together as a community to prevent these events from happening. It will also provide additional resources for participants so they may continue their education on this topic, followed by a question-and answer segment.
Libraries to observe Memorial Day holiday
In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, all public libraries will be closed Saturday through Monday.

Farmers Resource Workshop planned
The public is invited to attend a Farmers Resource Workshop from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Aupuni Center, 101 Pauahi St., Hilo. The free workshop is a collaborative effort between state and federal agencies and the University of Hawaii to provide information on a variety of agriculture-related issues, such as pesticide use, financial assistance, marketing, conservation, sustainable farming systems and food safety certification.
