The 36th annual Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record $1,745,001 this year.

A total of 14,281 walkers on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii Island participated in the May 10 fundraiser that generates funds for hundreds of local charities. Maui raised the most fund of any of the islands for the fourth consecutive year, $767,495, a record for the Valley Isle. Hawaii Island, on the other hand, had 1,700 walkers and raised $276,218.

Since its inception in 1978, the charity walk has raised more than $28 million for Hawaii charities.
