Robert VanHubbard

Robert Ray VanHubbard, 61, of Papaaloa died May 9, 2014, at his residence. Born Dec. 16, 1952, in Washington, he was a carpenter and welder.

A service has been held.

He is survived by wife, Holly Young of Papaaloa; son, Yureck VanHubbard of Oahu; mother, Carol Hubbard of Papaaloa; sister, Shelly Kahiel of Virginia.

Colin Ishii

Colin Yoshio Ishii, 54, of Pepeekeo died May 1, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 27, 1960, in Pepeekeo, he was a carpenter employed by G. Kobayashi Builders.

Friends may call at 3:30 p.m. May 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by mother, Hatsuko Ishii of Pepeekeo; brother, Kevin (Laurie) Ishii of Hilo; sister, Aline (Robert Wada) Ishii of Honolulu; two nephews; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Hatsuyo Sakata

Hatsuyo “Carol” Sakata, 92, of Pahala died April 24, 2014, at home. Born Feb. 25, 1922, in Naalehu, she was a retired owner of Ka‘u Express Inc., retired clerk from Ka‘u Meat Market and member of Pahala Hongwanji Mission.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. May 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Alan (Charlotte) Kohara of Cerritos, Calif., Roy (Sandra) Sakata of Honolulu; daughter, Lynn (Kenneth) Whitmore of Clarinda, Iowa; sisters, Kokimi (Iwao) Takaki of Naalehu, Yuriko (Lee) Prentice of Austin, Texas, Eloise (Clayton) Murakami of Kaneohe, Oahu; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kay Yokoyama

Kay Kyoko Yokoyama, 88, of Hilo died April 29, 2014, at the Kuakini Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired psychiatric social worker with the state of Hawaii, an award-winning artist, a board member of the East Hawaii Cultural Council, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, coordinated a book project, “Aloha Aina: Big Island Memories,” for the East Hawaii Cultural Council and co-authored “Poets Behind Barbed Wire.”

Friends may call at 3 p.m. May 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by son, Philip (Joyce) Miyamoto of Honolulu; brother, George (Mieko) Yokoyama of Hilo; two grandchildren.

Gloria Andrade and Sidney Andrade Sr.

A joint service for Gloria Jean Ballenti Andrade and Sidney Earle Andrade Sr. will be held at 10 a.m. May 25 at the last double pavilion at Old Kona Airport Park

Gloria Andrade, 66, died April 8, 2014, in Henderson, Nev. Sidney Andrade Sr. died April 25, 2011, in Henderson, Nev. They both resided in Henderson, Nev., and were formerly of Kailua-Kona and Honolulu.

They are survived by children, Sidney (Melanie) Andrade Jr., Donovan Andrade and Leona Andrade, all of Henderson, Nev.; three grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gloria Andrada is also survived by siblings, Lucy (Walter) Figueroa of Waianae Oahu, Vivian Quizon of Waipahu, Oahu, Josephine (Joe) Menke of New Mexico, Andrew (Cynthia) Aliser of Surprise, Ariz., Jerry Navarro of Pearl City, Oahu.

Sidney Andrade Sr. is also survived by siblings, Cynthia Santana, Ronsten Andrade and Daryl Andrade, all of the Big Island.

Philip Williams

Philip “Phil” Dangar Williams, 94, of Papaikou died May 8, 2014, at Pohai Malama. Born Dec. 18, 1919, in London, he was a retired land surveyor and member of the Unitarian Roundtable.

He is survived by wife, Barbara Williams of Papaikou; sons, Mark (Karen) Williams and and Kevin (Kathy) Williams, both of Vancouver, Canada, Simon (Susie) Williams of Victoria, Canada; daughters, Andolie Marten of Papaikou, Nicola Ryall of Vancouver, Canada; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nephews; one niece.

Randolph Medeiros

Randolph “Randy” Evans Medeiros, 65, of Keaau died April 28, 2014, at Pohai Malama. Born Nov. 19, 1948, in Olaa, he was a member of Riverside School, Rainbow Crafts and the Special Olympics.

Private services were held.

He is survived by brother, Rodney Medeiros of Maui; sisters, Gloria (Clarence) Amador of Keaau, Lynette (Gabriel) Amaral of Mountain View, Bernadette Leialoha of Hawaiian Beaches; nieces and nephews.

Mark Colton

Mark Edward Colton, 59, of Kailua-Kona died May 4, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 1, 1954, in Washington, D.C., he was disabled.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by brothers, Joseph (Tracie) Colton of St. Petersburg, Fla., Michael Colton of Keaau; sisters, Pam (Radosevich of Honaunau, Mary Colton of Kailua-Kona; hanai brother, Matthew Radosevich of Holualoa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

James Ackerman

James “Sonny” Allen Ackerman, 87, of Kealakekua died April 27, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 30, 1926, in Kealakekua, he was a retired assistant airline manager for Hawaiian Airlines, founding member of Calvary Community Church and a veteran of the Army, 11th Airborne Division.

No services are planned at this time. Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 241, Kealakekua, HI 96750.

He is survived by wife, Bettylou Ackerman of Kealakekua; daughters, Teresa Ackerman, Robyn Ackerman and Cindy Ackerman, all of Kealakekua; brother, Howard (Harriet) Ackerman of Kealakekua; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia McConnachie

Patricia “Patt” Rose McConnachie, 91, of Mountain View died May 13, 2014, at home. Born July 30, 1922, in Ukiah, Calif., she was a retired certified nursing assistant and retired waitress for American Airlines.

She is survived by brother, Don Cross of San Francisco; five children; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Junior Kalima

Junior Kahoopii Kalima, 94, of Hilo died May 5, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 13, 1920, in Wailuku, Maui, he was a former percussionist and singer for A Thousand Pounds of Melody, former landscaper technician in California, former employee for Orchids of Hawaii, retired landscaper technician for Keauhou Surf and Racket Club, World War II Army veteran and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 8:45 a.m. June 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 9:30 a.m. service. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

He is survived by, daughters Kuuipo De Leon and Leialoha Kalima, both of Torrance, Calif.; son, Wesley (Verna Chartrand) Kalima of Waimea; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
