Rinpoche visiting peace gardens
Paleaku Peace Gardens welcomes Venerable Tulku Yeshi Rinpoche for a Meditation and Empowerment of White Tara from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A donation of $40 is requested.
Rinpoche is a Dzogchen master and the reincarnation of Dzogchen Gyaltsab Thodo Rinpoche. He was recognized by H.H. Dalai Lama’s Nyingmapa teacher Kyabje Trulshig Rinpoche and has received teachings from 25 masters representing all five schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Presently he lives in Seattle. The blessing empowerment of White Tara, also called “the Mother of all Buddhas” will be given to making a connection with one who is the embodiment of graceful power, wisdom, purity and long life. Sometimes the White Tara is called “the Goddess of Seven Eyes” because in addition to the third eye, she is also depicted with eyes in her hands and feet. Attendees should refrain from eating meat, fish, garlic and onions during the day.

Qigong retreat begins Friday
Kokolulu Farm and Retreats in Hawi is hosting a qigong weekend from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The workshop will include medicine-less healing skills to help focus the mind for optimal healing.
Space is limited to 17 participants. The charge for this weekend retreat is $245, excluding meals, when paid in advance. Limited housing is available for an additional charge.
Master Ning Jian Xiong is an internationally recognized teacher and healer who worked at the world’s largest qigong hospital in China. This “medicine-less” hospital, Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Clinic & Training Center, has treated more than 200,000 patients, with more than 185 different illnesses, with a 95 percent effective improvement rate. Many of these people had cancer and other chronic diagnoses.

‘Speaks Out’ taping slated Friday
Big Island residents are invited to talk about any subject, announce upcoming nonprofit events, entertain or do a monologue for five minutes at this month’s videotaping of “Hawaii Island Speaks Out” public forum. The sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Na Leo O Hawaii facilities located at 74-5565 Luhia St., Suite C1-A, Kailua-Kona.

Richards Awards taking applications
Bank of Hawaii Foundation is accepting applications for the 2014 Bank of Hawaii Monty Richards Hawaii Island Community Award. Hawaii County nonprofit organizations are invited to apply by July 7. The award provides one or more grants totaling up to $25,000. Nominations may be made by the public or by the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations themselves.
The award was established in 2008 in honor of Herbert “Monty” Montague Richard Jr., a Hawaii Island community leader and former longtime board director for Bank of Hawaii.
Award selection will be based on exemplary fulfillment of the organization’s mission; leadership demonstrated by the organization’s executive director and board; and the organization’s engagement in one of the following focus areas: community development, education and human services. Additional consideration will be given to organizations that also focus on community development through financial education programs.

Prostate cancer group meets today
The prostate cancer information and support group meets from noon to 1 p.m. today at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel’s pool bar. Newly diagnosed patients, cancer survivors and their caregivers are welcome to attend. Lunch will not be served but can be purchased at the pool bar.
