Ruth Louise Winson, 91, of Hilo died May 3, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born May 29, 1922, in Lorraine, Ohio, she was a real estate agent, an employee of Pacific Hawaii Bed and Breakfast and member of the Church of the Holy Apostles.

She is survived by daughters, Tamara (Rodney Nekoba) Winson-Kakazu of Hilo, Valerie (Dennis) Cain of Magnolia, Texas, Pamela (Dan) Hankins of Parker, Colo., Melanie (Jeff) Merril of Lake City, Colo., Cynthia (Pete) Glasior of Napa, Calif.; son, Rex (Joni) Winson of Kaneohe, Oahu; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Emilio Madamba

Emilio “Milio” L. Madamba, 92, of Pahoa died May 10, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born Dec. 30, 1921, in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he retired from Kuwahara Anthurium Farms in Paho, was a papaya farmer and member of the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. May 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. wake service. An all-night vigil follows at the family residence in Nanawale Boulevard in Pahoa. Friends call at 8 a.m. May 31 at Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at the Pahoa Catholic Cemetery with a gathering to follow at the Madamba residence in Nanawale Boulevard in Pahoa. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Leonora Madamba of Pahoa; sons, Juanito (Milagros) Madamba, Felicidad (Concepcion) Madamba, Don (Remedios) Madamba, Joveno (Josie) Madamba and Ignacio (Tina) Madamba, all from Pahoa, Dencio (Esmenia) Madamba of Long Beach, Calif., Santiago (Milagos) Madamba of Hawaiian Beaches; daughters, Leticia (Regino) Dalmacio of Pahoa, Susan (Barney) Tasani of Maui; brother, Mariano Madamba of Philippines; sister, Virginia (Inyang) Gervacio of Philippines; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Abraham Mahi Jr.

Abraham Leone Mahi Jr., 85, of Waimea died May 4, 2014, at his daughter’s residence in Waikoloa. Born May 9, 1928, in Kapulena, he was a retired maintenance supervisor for the state Highway Division, retired sergeant in the Army and kahu at Ke Ola Mau Loa Church in Waimea.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. May 30 at the family’s residence in Kuhio Village at 64-1068 Kamanawa St. in Waimea for a 5 p.m. service. Friends may call again at 7 a.m. May 31 at the residence for an 8 a.m. service. Burial follows at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by daughter, Melissa (Joseph) Lindsey of Waikoloa; son, Mark Mahi of Waimea; brothers, Paul Mahi of Las Vegas, Jacob Mahi of Honolulu; sisters, Dinah Kaikuana and Elizabeth Halualani, both of Hilo, Phoebe Hopfe of Honolulu, Katherine Mahi of Kailua-Kona; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thomas “Tom” Wayne Hodgins, 64, of Waipahu, Oahu, formerly of Molokai and Captain Cook, died May 8, 2014, in Aiea, Oahu. He was born Feb. 9, 1950, in Honolulu.

Akira “Sonny” Omonaka, 86, of Pepeekeo, died May 9, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired business agent with the International Longshoreman’s and Warehouseman’s Union, member of Honomu Hongwanji Mission and a World War II Army veteran.

Rose Lee “Eva” Evalani Stevens, 66, of Hawi died May 17, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Feb. 14, 1948, in North Kohala, she was a homemaker, former housekeeper, secretary and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 31 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward, for an 11 a.m. service. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date.

She is survived by husband, John Stevens of Hawi; son, Michael (Vergina Karratti) Medeiros; brother, Bill (Nani) Neves of Kapaau; four grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dolores Pulgados Tobosa Sumibcay, 87, of Pepeekeo died April 28, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 27, 1927, in Pepeekeo, she was a homemaker and member of the Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Honomu, Pepeekeo Senior Citizens Club, Kulaimano U.E. Club and International Longshore and Warehouse Union Women’s Auxiliary.

Ronald Berdon Sr., 68, of Kailua-Kona, died May 21, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 3, 1945, in Honokaa, he was the owner of Berdon Marine Repairs; a former boat mechanic for Akamai Marine, Aloha Marine and B &L Marine; and member of Hope Chapel Kailua-Kona and Gospel of Salvation Kohala.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. June 7 at Kona Palisades Recreational Center for an 11 a.m. service. Luncheon follows. Family requests casual attire be worn. Lei and loose flowers are welcome.

Charles Ricketts

Charles William Ricketts, 83, of Volcano and formerly of San Diego died May 14, 2014, at his residence. Born in Walsenburg, Colo., he was a retired park ranger at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, master diver, former president of the San Diego Underwater Photographic Society, Hilo Orchid Society, life member of Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and a Korean War Navy veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Loretta Ricketts of Volcano; daughter, Cynthia James of San Marcos, Calif.

Veronica Limayo

Veronica “Boning” Ramelb Limayo, 64, of Keaau died May 19, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 20, 1950, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a former housekeeper at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center, a former papaya packer for the Diamond Head Papaya Co. and Hawaiian Fresh Products and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. June 1 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. wake service at 7 p.m.. An all-night vigil follows at the family residence in Keaau. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. June 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.
