Farm to table benefit event is Sunday
A Sunday farm to table benefit event for Kahilu Theatre and PAI Foundation will offer farm to table dining at Real Farm in Waikii Ranch, where all food is produced just footsteps from the table.
Real Farm is the home of Tim Bostock and Melanie Holt. Bostock is the director of Kahilu Theatre and Holt is the organic farmer who is overseeing all the provisions for the meal that will be prepared by Honolulu chef Mark Noguchi.
Lamb, turkey and pork are on the menu, all raised on the farm. An extensive array of vegetables will be harvested including artichokes, asparagus and tomatoes. Daughter Jasmine Bostock will display cheeses made from fresh milk provided by Buttercup, the Jersey cow.
Komakakino and Hamajang will provide entertainment.
Tickets are $150 per person, $250 for VIP early admission with perks such as a farm tour and reception with Robert Cazimero at the piano. The event begins at 1 p.m. for VIP and 2 p.m. for all others. Tables of 10 can be reserved. For tickets, visit kahilutheatre.org/showinfo/farm-to-table.
Whale sanctuary seeks advisory council applicants
Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is seeking to fill two primary and four alternate seats on its advisory council. The council ensures public input into sanctuary matters and provides advice to sanctuary management.
The two primary seats the sanctuary is currently seeking to fill are business/commerce and tourism. The sanctuary also seeks to fill four alternate seats: Native Hawaiian, Hawaii County, Honolulu County, and commercial shipping.
All candidates are selected based on their expertise and experience in relation to the seat for which they are applying, community and professional affiliations, and views regarding the protection and management of marine resources.

Veterans hold dinner dance Friday
Kona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12122 is hosting a dinner dance fundraiser Friday at the post on Makala Boulevard in Kailua-Kona.
A dinner of lemon chicken, rice pilaf, salad, rolls and dessert will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Johnny Shot Band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. The fee is $15 for dinner and dancing; $5 for the dance only.
Words and Wine event is Tuesday
Local authors Jen McGeehan, Patricia Arrigoni and Patricia Alarcon Missler will be featured during Kona Stories Book Shop’s Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Keauhou Shopping Center.
McGeehan is a motivational speaker, sharing her humorous and inspiring stories of God’s miraculous healing and restoration. Her book, “My Year in a Yurt” offers 38 stories revealing the experiences that unfolded as the McGeehans set out on a journey that ultimately led to financial healing and restoration.
Patricia Arrigoni will present her hardcover book, “The Marine Mammal Center…how it began,” that describes her experience co-founding The Marine Mammal Center in 1975 in California, the recent dedication of its new $33 million facility, and the center’s plans to build a a small marine mammal hospital for the care of the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal on the Big Island.
Missler and her husband operate Lavender Moon Gallery. Readers from diverse backgrounds will relate to the poignant stories in “Pink Elephants and Chocolate Eclairs: Memoir of a Border Town Chica”, which breaks from the stereotype of the Mexican-American experience.
