Holualoa Village’s shops and art galleries have begun holding “Art After Dark” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the first Friday of each month in Holualoa.

More than a dozen of the historic coffee town’s businesses are now staying open late on the first Friday of each month to welcome guests with pupu, music and debuts of new art and artists.

New work from Holualoa Gallery co-owner Mary Lovein and original paintings from local artist William Wingert will be featured June 6. Wingert will also have his easel set up and be painting at the gallery during the evening.

Studio 7 Fine Arts Gallery will host author and illustrator Mike Austin and illustrator Jing Jing Tsong who will have a book signing June 7. All proceeds from their book sales will be donated to the Donkey Mill Art Center for their Art Education for Youth program.

Pat Pearlman Designs, recently opened in the Inaba family’s pink Kona Hotel, will feature “Art After Dark” specials on her pearl and gemstone bead strands. Cinderella’s is hosting a Pop Up Fashion Boutique, featuring ByMisha, Sister Creations, Wrapped N. Love and Handmade Life Hawaii.

Unscheduled acoustic music may be heard from the Holualoa Ukulele Gallery at the south end of town, to the Holuakoa Gardens & Cafe a half mile up Mamalahoa Highway near the end of the village. The restaurant is also having a wine tasting and fashion and jewelry show by Kareeza and friends.

Dovetail Gallery will host a special showing of new ceramic works by Gerald Ben, Suzanne Starr-Merner and Claire Seastone, fired in the brand new soda kiln at Good Pots Studio. Their pottery forms are enhanced by unique carbon trapping and the magic of soda.

Free parking is available at the village parking lot at the southern end of town. For more information, visit holualoahawaii.com.
