As the Hokulea and Hikianalia embark on their worldwide voyage, The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii invites the public to view a collection of artwork featuring the waa, a collaborative installation by the Volcano Art Center in the Luana Lounge now through June 8. Original artwork by Hawaii Island artists Edwin Kayton, Kira Kamamalu, Vicki Penney-Rohner and Terry Taube contribute to a theme featuring the voyaging canoes and Hawaii Island.
Chris Luedi, the hotel’s general manager, has been involved in the Hawaiian voyaging tradition for more than a decade. Under his leadership, the hotel has partnered with the nonprofit Volcano Art Center to enhance the visitor experience by displaying artwork by local artists.
