Two teens were rescued Sunday morning after spending the night on the summit of Mauna Loa.

The boys were hiking with their parents on Saturday when they apparently became separated from the family, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. They were reported missing around 6 p.m.

On Sunday morning, rescue personnel, assisted by a Hawaii County helicopter, began searching the summit. The boys were subsequently located in a lava field and extricated to a parking area where they were reunited with their parents.

Neither required medical treatment, according to the department.
