MILWAUKEE — Bizarre details emerged Monday in the stabbing over the weekend of a 12-year-old Waukesha girl, who allegedly was attacked by two friends who had plotted her killing for months.
The victim was in stable condition but fighting for her life, Waukesha police said Monday, and the two suspects, both 12-year-old girls, are being held on charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
The suspects are accused of luring their friend to a wooded area near Rivera Drive and Big Bend Road, where one held the victim down while the other stabbed her 19 times, police said.
The state has requested $1 million bail for the first of the two suspects appearing in court.
The girl had injuries on her arms, legs and torso. She managed to crawl out of the woods to a road, where a bicyclist found her. She was rushed to a hospital.
A Waukesha County Sheriff’s deputy located the suspects hours later. Police said the knife was recovered.
Both suspects were interested in a website containing short stories about death and horror, police said.
Police are not releasing the names of the girls at this time.
Police said the girls attended a sleepover Friday night and all attended the same middle school. They went into David’s Park in the morning to play a game.
The girls were fascinated by a fictional character that appears on multiple websites of a similar nature. Police Chief Russell Jack would not release the names of the website or the character.
Jack said “obvious evidence” was available when the suspects were identified walking near I-94 in Waukesha.
“As the details became more apparent, it’s extremely disturbing as a parent and as a chief of police, especially with the age of the suspects and being female” Jack said. “This is a very disturbing investigation.”
Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel told reporters he was limiting his comments on the stabbing because “I don’t want to try these individuals in the media.”
“It’s a very shocking incident. There’s no two ways about it,” Schimel said.
Schimel, who is running for state attorney general, made his comments at the Capitol at a news conference promoting his plan to curb heroin abuse.
