Habitat blessing completed home
Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii will hold a home blessing ceremony for a recently completed new house Thursday. The home is the 21st home Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii has built on the island.
The family receiving the keys is the Kay-Malina ohana. Josh and Shorene will be moving in with his mother, Cheryl, and their three children. They will be joining the five partner families on Aheahea Way who received homes as part of Habitat’s September 2012 Blitz Build, when 1,200 volunteers came together in Kona to build five houses in 10 days.
This home marks the beginning of a partnership as well. Hale Ohana Aloha is a Realtor-based program working to provide Habitat for Humanity homes built on Hawaii Island with kitchen packages.
The home blessing will be held at 4 p.m. on Aheahea Way in Kailua-Kona, across from Kealakehe High School. At this time, Hale Ohana Aloha will present the family with the kitchen package. The blessing is a public event and all are welcome to attend.
Qigong workshop slated June 20-22
Kokolulu Farm and Retreats in Hawi is hosting a qigong weekend workshop with master Ning Jian Xiong from China. This will be Ning’s final training in the U.S. before he leaves Kokolulu to return to China at the end of June.
The workshop is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. June 20 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21 and 22 and includes medicineless healing skills to help focus the mind for optimal healing.
Space is limited to 17 participants. The fee is $245 paid in advance, not including meals. Limited housing is available for an additional charge.

Traffic safety group meets Thursday
Kona Traffic Safety Committee meets at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Community Hale, Building G of the West Hawaii Community Center on Kealakehe Parkway.
There is parking in the makai parking lot next to Building G.
VFW plans dinner dance for Friday
Kona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12122 is hosting a dinner dance fundraiser Friday at the post on Makala Boulevard in Kailua-Kona.
A dinner of turkey sliders, potato salad and lemon cake will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Kelly Duo will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. The fee is $15 for dinner and dancing; $5 for the dance only.
Committee on status of women meets
Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women meets at 10 a.m. Friday at Waimea Center, 65-1158 Mamalahoa Highway, Suite 2C, in Waimea. The public is welcome to attend.
Concert and celebration to honor Keala Ching
A birthday celebration honoring kumu Keala Ching will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the formal gardens of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
The event will feature performances by several halau including Hula Halau o Kukui Aloha o Kohala, Halau Hula Mauna Lei and Beamer Solomon Halau o Poohala. The Ladies of Waikui and Konabob along with Ka Pa Hula Na Wai Iwi Ola will take the stage at 6 p.m.
Book sale benefits Kona libraries
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold its next book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai. Proceeds support the needs of the Kona libraries. The next sale will be July 12. To volunteer, call 322-0077.
Volunteers will work in the garage area of the library Tuesday and Thursday and will be accepting book donations.
Kamehameha Day hoolaulea held at Mokuaikaua Church
A King Kamehameha Day hoolaulea arts and crafts fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of Mokuaikaua Church during and after the King Kamehameha Day Parade Celebration.
Food, beverages and arts and crafts vendors will be there. Live music will start as soon as the parade ends.

Free identity theft seminar offered
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union will hold a free financial literacy seminar on identity theft from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room at its Kaloko Facility.
The seminar will cover deceptive methods used to financially injure or exploit, seven types of identity theft and how the State of Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs can help people protect their savings. Sessions will be presented by Theresa Kong Kee, investor education specialist and Leolyn Sugue-Anderson, supervising investigator for the state Office of the Securities Commissioner, and Warren Chong, independent associate and small business and group benefits specialist of LegalShield.
