Marie Cadena

Marie Piilani Cadena, 91, of Hilo died June 6, 2014, at her residence. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired occupational therapist for the state of Texas, a former librarian, and a member and past president of Kiwanis.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. June 12 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Cremation will follow. Scattering of her ashes will take place at 10 a.m. June 15 at the Punaluu Black Sand Beach in Ka‘u. Donations may be made in memory of Marie Piilani Cadena to the American Cancer Society.

She is survived by sons, George Kaualoku of San Antonio, Texas, Stephen (Theresa) Kaualoku of Richardson, Texas, Michael Kaualoku of Oahu; daughters, Marvid-Ann (Karl) Schneider of Issaquah, Wash., Dayna Czarnecki of Hilo, Mary-Beth Rank of Hilo, Amy (Jose) Canejo of Tracy, Calif., Loralee (George) MacDonald of Mandeville, La.; brothers, Paul Chung-Hoon of Kona, Edwin Chung-Hoon of Oahu, Samuel Chung-Hoon of Florida; sisters, Puanani Chung-Hoon of Oahu, Betty Townsend of California, Ernestine Kenny of Oahu, Naomi Campbell of Montana; 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
