The Hawaii Fire Department has suspended the search for a missing fisherman last seen Friday on the shoreline fronting Malama Flats in Puna.

Rescue crews found no sign of the 56-year-old man following four days of aerial, dive and ground searches in the Mackenzie State Recreation Area, according to the department.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the man was fishing from a 10-foot cliff near Mackenzie State Recreation Area when witnesses say he was swept to sea after either slipping or being washed off by a wave. He was last seen wearing black rain gear.

The Coast Guard suspended its search for the man on Monday. Coast Guard crews searched more than 959 square miles.
