HONOLULU — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is giving grants worth more than $660,000 to three homeless assistance programs in Honolulu and Maui.
The department said Thursday the grants will ensure the continued operation of permanent and transitional housing renewal projects.
U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz says the Institute for Human Services in Honolulu will receive more than $480,000 to house 33 vulnerable and chronically homeless individuals.
The funds will cover rental subsidies while the nonprofit partners with other agencies to ensure their clients receive help addressing challenges.
Maui’s Family Life Center will receive nearly $64,000 to provide permanent housing and support services for homeless disabled individuals.
The grants are among $140 million the department is providing to 900 homeless assistance programs across the country.
