Carol McCabe

Carol “Rita” (Iranon) McCabe, 78, of Hilo died June 4, 2014, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Dec. 31, 1935, in Pepeekeo, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. June 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may again call at 10:30 a.m. June 24 at Homelani Memorial Park Ilima Section for a graveside committal service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Howard McCabe of Hilo; sons, James Moniz and Kenneth Moniz, all of Hilo; brothers, George (Pat) Iranon of Honolulu, Phillip (Susan) Iranon of Hilo; sisters, Angie Menor of Honolulu, Nancy (Bonafacio) Defiesta of Kaneohe, Oahu, Jackie Indreginal of Wahiawa, Oahu, Connie Glorioso of Florida; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Velin Gragas

Velin “Vel” Galolo Gragas, 70, of Honolulu died May 24, 2014, at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born Sept. 24, 1943, in Hilo, she was a retired cafeteria worker for Washington Middle School and a parishioner of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Pauoa, Oahu.

Friends may call at 5:30 p.m. June 24 at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel-Waipio in Waipahu, Oahu, for a 6:30 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Roberto Gragas of Honolulu; sons, Ross Gragas and Gannon (Aolani) Yamasato-Gragas, both of Honolulu; sisters, Marina (William) Pascua of Koloa, Kauai, Adelle (Larry) Weber of Hilo, Kalei Degracia of Lexington Park, Md.; brothers, Remy (Pat) Pascua of Kaneohe, Oahu, Don Galolo of Aiea, Oahu; three grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jane Herbst

Jane F. Hanna Herbst, 89, of Hilo died May 24, 2014, in El Cajon, Calif. Born in 1945, in Rochester, N.Y., she was a retired nurse, real estate agent, broker and owner of Herbst Realty in Hilo and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Parish Advisory Council.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a service. A reception follows. A private family committal will be held.

She is survived by husband, Arthur Herbst Sr.; sons, Gregory Herbst of Volcano, Arthur (Jeanne) Herbst Jr. of Hilo; daughters, Mary Margaret (Allan) James of El Cajon, Calif., Michelle (Martin) Branco of Wright City, Mo., Kathryn (Ronald) Masulit of Hilo; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Chantle Palilio

Chantle Jaiden Palilio, baby girl, of Hilo was stillborn June 4, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. June 25 at the First Born Temple Church Hilo for a service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park Infant Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by parents, Jaymar Palilio and Evangeline Rumeral of Hilo; grandparents, Rodolfo and Melissa Palilio of Hilo, Eduardo Jr. and Lorena Flores of Maui; great-grandparents, Modesto and Luzviminda Palilio of Hilo, Rafael and Luzminda Tosio and Amparo Turno, all of the Philippines, Eduardo and Norma Flores of Maui; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
