Energy workshop tour slated Monday
Hydrogen can be used as a fuel to power vehicles, homes, or even cook food. It can also be used to store excess energy from solar, wind or geothermal electricity generators. Could it be part of the energy mix for Hawaii Island?
Blue Planet Research has been pioneering the real-world testing and integration of energy generation technologies from vendors worldwide, including photovoltaics, batteries, electrolyzers and fuel cells. Plans are in the works to erect hydrogen fueling stations around the island in anticipation of fuel cell vehicle availability.
The public is invited to tour the Blue Planet Research’s energy workshop with its CTO Paul Ponthieux. Attendees will see a vanadium-redox flow battery and a hydrogen generation, storage and vehicle fueling system. The event is scheduled for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Puuwaawaa Ranch. It includes time before and after the presentation for questions, answers and networking opportunities.
The program is part of a monthly pau hana series for people interested in technology in West Hawaii. Each month, a presenter discusses a different topic related to technology and entrepreneurship. All are welcome. A potluck is included with the event. Bring pupu and beverages to share; reusable plates and cups are encouraged.

Seniors plan movie day on Wednesday
Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building A to watch the movie “King’s Speech.” All seniors are invited to this free event. There will be no meeting this week at Hale Halawai.

Codependent women meeting Thursday
A Co-Dependents Anonymous women’s meeting meets from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Unity Church sanctuary, 75-5722 Hanama Place.
The 12-step fellowship is comprised of those whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships. The nonprofit organization is supported by the voluntary contributions of attending members.

VFW plans dinner dance on Friday
Kona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12122 is hosting a dinner and dance fundraiser Friday at the post on Makala Boulevard in Kailua-Kona.
A dinner of Italian chicken, pasta, garlic bread, salad and dessert will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Johnny Shot Band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. The fee is $15 for dinner and dancing or $5 for the dance only.
