Heavy rainfall reported near Kawaihae has prompted a flood advisory, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

At 6:30 p.m., radar showed heavy rain falling in the Kawaihae area of South Kohala, according to the service. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary. The advisory remains in effect until 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, draining ditches and low-lying areas.

Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
