No tsunami was triggered by a magnitude-7.2 earthquake that struck Monday morning in New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The earthquake struck at 9:19 a.m., according to the center.
Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat of tsunami to Hawaii.
