Candidate forum live-streamed here
Friends of NELHA invites the public to the Gateway Center for a screening of Hawaii Island’s only candidate forum with U.S. Senate candidates Brian Schatz and Colleen Hanabusa, to be live-streamed Wednesday from Sangha Hall in Hilo. Doors to the Gateway Center will open at 6 p.m. and, beginning at 6:30, the Internet broadcast will be projected onto the Gateway’s large screen. Questions will focus on issues important to Hawaii Island. The public is invited to submit questions in advance to admin@hicc.biz and to info@lava105.com.
The League of Women Voters will be on hand to provide voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications.
This forum is the only one scheduled for the Big Island prior to the Aug. 9 primary election and is sponsored by numerous community organizations in East Hawaii.
Free video production class offered
Na Leo O Hawaii offers a free video production orientation from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at its facility in Kaiwi Square, 74-5565 Luhia St., Suite C1-A, Kailua-Kona.

Holualoa holds monthly stroll
A free Holualoa Village “Art After Dark” stroll will feature live music, refresherments, and local artists. The event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Holualoa Village.

Honu releases slated Friday
Since 1989, Mauna Lani has received juvenile Hawaiian green sea turtles from Oahu’s Sea Life Park, and raised them in the saltwater ponds of the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. The honu are cared for until they grow to a size and weight that are deemed appropriate for release into the wild. This release occurs every Fourth of July at the ocean’s edge fronting the hotel.
At 10:30 a.m. Friday, the honu will be gathered and paraded to the beach for their release. A welcome ceremony will kick off the event followed by the release. This annual celebration honors the honu and helps educate the public about the Hawaiian green sea turtle. Families are invited to join the celebration.
